Since I´m back it is so calm here in the forums. Or are running all important informations behind the backstage ? Sometime it seems and I have the feeling nobody is interested in further development of the s@h app. Sure, a lot is already done. All thanks to the development crew. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I asked in the Pre-Release -->Windows forum (22.09.07) Please let me know if anybody of you are working with me together in further optimization of the source code.More about 40 read it, but nothing. No answer till now........I can´t believe it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  
Hallo Heinz, es liegt vieleicht daran, dass du schon seit monaten auf der 2.2b source herum reites und wir schon bei 2.4 sind...
Warum du das machst, weiß ich nicht...
Des weiteren geht auch nix hinter "verschlossenen Türen" vor sich... es gibt nixt neues und mein persöhnliches interesse an S@H tendiert momentan 100% gegen NULL.... oder ... "void S@H()" 
Keine ahnung wie das hier weiter gehen soll, denn ich mache keinen finger mehr krum hier...
Cya... ich bin dann mal gone ....

Wonder what kind of speed enhancements this gets...
My A64 2.7ghz cpu running x86_64 Suse 10.2 nearly gets beat by a Athlon XP 2600 running windows XP..
Things should look a bit better with the 2.4L version now. However 2.4L might not be the last release for x64
heck.. a Pentium D running at 3.2 ghz on Xp is almost twice as fast as my A64.
Of course it is faster. A Pentium D has 2048 kb L2 cache per core and your A64 only 512 kb.

I use IPP 5.2.063 (IA-32 one), evaluation. And got such error: ..\analyzeFuncs.cpp(70): catastrophic error: could not open source file "ipp_w7.h" And indeed, there are no ipp_* include files in include directory of my IPP installation (no such file on my whole HDD  ) Something wrong with my compiler/IPP installation or it's needed to change sources/use new ones? (currently I try to build kwsn-seti_boinc-5.15-win-1.31 variant)
Evaluation versions of IPP do not contain the header files and libraries for static binaries.
So no ipp_w7.h available. On the eval version cpu functions will be chosen by a runtime dispatcher.

According my own tests SSSE3 64bit under 64-bit OS is the best one for such CPU So right now probably KWSN_2.4V_SSSE3_MB.exe is the leader (from 2.4V_Windows_x64_SSSE3 archive)
That's what i'm telling people all day long However... i do see a possibility to gain another 10 to max 15% in performance... but ONLY for the 64 bit app.
Anyhow, we need to get a common base (2.4V changes) for ALL apps. That' Linux,Windows,UNIX before we can start figuring out how to get some more performance...

2.4V for linux 32/64 bit contains 5.15 versioned executables. Some glitch with naming ?
There's no 2.4V for linux atm. So there's no glitch at all.
However, the optimizations you'll see in the S@H stock application for both linux and windows are ALL based on 2.2B source code( wich is, again based on a very old 5.15 stock s@h app.)
For later relased 2.4V linux apps there will posibbly be the same version thag on the executables ... 5.15... So all in all no need to worry about that at all.

Great news! BTW, could you please point out test WU that best suitable for speed comparision? Sure whole bunch gives most precise picture but maybe some faster approach is valuable for comparision of different systems?
Better ask Joe or Mark about this one this weekend i did compile about 50 versions of the apps so i only provided the apps and msattler and Joe did the speed testing. I only did a quick check if the apps are working

Could anyone list 5.28 over 5.27 improvements, please?
it's faster and compatible with 5.28.
We did bench it on several WUs on different CPUS/OS. That's the major difference between your tests and ours. You only do run a single WU and we did test it with a whole bunch of different WUs both line Feed and MultiBeam(ARs)

The user who had first reported the crash of the SSE app has downloaded the new one and posted that it started OK.
Thanks. I did test that one on my old SMP PIII 500MHz. There was and issue in regard to the choosen chirping routine.
However if the app does not crash in the first minute when i does it's optimial function selection, it will work and validate....

Ok, thank a lot! Take your time with the linux soup. We want it well cooked and tasty.
In addition to that i'm planing a GFX release for linux too.
Besides that there will be no more difference between Kernel versions like in previous relases (32 bit).

I think the app info is incorrect on the AMD SSE2 version, it reads filename "sse" not "sse2". also the amd version executable reads intel em64t when you mouse over it and file does not mention amd after its unzipped.
Just an observation

Thanks. I did fix that file name issue. (that's what happens when you compile apps all day long )
About the "Intel EM64T" you don't have to worry about that one. The apps are based on the x64 source tree. That's all it says.

Yes. There will be new releases for linux too. Unfortunately i didn't have the time to start with them.
Moreover is there going to be a Core 2 optimized version as there was for 2.2?
For Linux, probably but i can't promise anything. The latest Linux tests have shown no difference between a SSE3 and SSSE3 build. IOW no speed gain at all.

Howdy,
there are new apps ready for download both Windows x32 and x64 incl. GFX enabled ones, ALL are new.
You can see there's been a little change in the name tag as well, 2.4v ---> 2.4V is the new one .
There will be a credit multiplier shown in the log file (stderr.txt).
Those apps are compatible with a soon to be released 5.28 stock application that reads the credit multiplier from the workunit header.

Make sure you have a look at the app_info.xml first ! There might by typos in there. So to make sure all will work, have a look for yourself

I just wanted to add my name to the list of those still patiently waiting for what I affectionately call "Chicken with Spice" aka: 2.4 with Graphics.
I understand that the Vista issue may have more weight behind/on it; however, I was on the 2.2B with Graphics until MB 5.27 hit SETI Main... Now I'm on stock MB 5.27; I miss my Chicken with spice... ;-)

That is exactly what i'm working on atm. I'm doing some testing BUT i can't promise anything at all.
However, most probably there will be a new release for ALL OS/Platforms on Sunday ( IF i can manage to compile the whole bunch of apps ~ 60 ...)
Those will be compatible with the stock 5.28 that'll be released soon. (and hopefully include GFX)
