1  Optimized Seti@Home apps / Linux / Re: Initial public release - Rev-2.2B Linux science apps on: 26 Mar 2007, 09:23:37 pm
Based on the comment by michael37, I tried DLing and unzipping the Linux app on my Windows platform.

Put the files in a shared folder, and went to my Linux box and copied the files into BOINC/projects/setiathome

Seems to be working fine!

One thing threw me for a  second - all the apps before this had "seti" somewhere in their name - this time, doing a
ps -ef | grep seti
showed nothing!  But I figured it out...

It would certainly appear that there may be some sort of incompatibility between 7zip on windows and bzip2 on Linux.

Thanks again, everyone!

Sorry to hear it's not just me. Sad

Ubunto 6.10 here as well.

I re-downloaded just to make sure it was'n't a bad download - same results.

Thanks for the suggestion, but....  command line used and erro message received:

roy@zaphod:~/boinc_temp$ tar -xvjf ../Desktop/KWSN-R2.2B--SSE.tar.bz2
bzip2: (stdin) is not a bzip2 file.
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

Not sure I understand - I installed the  "old" Linux version okay.....

Whoo-Hooo!!  Yippee!

Thank You to everyone involved - we DO appreciatte all the hard work this has taken!

Unfortunately - when I try to open the downloaded archive, bzip2 reports errors. Sad
Running
     bunzip2 -t KWSN-R2.2B--SSE.tar.bz2
yields this message:
bunzip2: Desktop/KWSN-R2.2B--SSE.tar.bz2: bad magic number (file not created by bzip2)

I've had the same problem on both my Linux systems (one Intel, one AMD).

Is it me, or is there a problem with the files provided?

Wasn't sure which factors might be important to you, so....

Are you planning to have a version of this for Linux?

Ran the new version. Both my family-model and computed name are listed in your table.

Thanks for the updates, Simon!

And Thank You even more for getting a Linux MMX version out to us - I finally have an optimized app on my ancient Celeron. Smiley

9  Optimized Seti@Home apps / Windows / Re: Automatic test and benchmark package - includes installer (BETA)! on: 16 Jul 2006, 03:11:42 pm
Hmmm, still mystified.  I just fired up add/remove programs, and it says I have .Net 1.1, .Net 1.1 Hotfix, and .Net 2.0

Could the 2.0 be interfering with 1.1?

I'll try re-installing 1.1 and see if it helps.
Update:  searched the web for .Net, and found an MS suggestion for "fixing" a .Net installation.  Downloaded .Net again, and did a reinstall/repair - still get the same crash. Sad

Any suggestions for more debugging?
10  Optimized Seti@Home apps / Windows / Re: Automatic test and benchmark package - includes installer (BETA)! on: 16 Jul 2006, 01:57:00 pm
Simon - first - THANK YOU for all your hard work!  I'm running your apps on my Dell Inspiron 2650 laptp, another Dell desktop (both Windows XP), an AMD box running Linux - but not yet my OLD Pentium II MMX / Linux.

I downloaded your Windows auto-install package, just so I could make sure I'd picked the fastest-for-me clients.  It worked fine on my desktop, but crashes on my laptop.

Immediately after double-clicking Beta tool, I get:
Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.
Process id-0xf6c, Thread id=0x490 (1168)

If I then click 'Cancel' to debug, I'm told that "Registered JIT debugger is not available", so I can't provide any more info.

No files are created/updated in the Test Beta directory.

Any suggestions?
